When the auto updates on twitter for basketball it should say quarter instead of period.

It says period because quarter assumes there are 4. Many basketball games are just 2 halves, or even 5 periods. When a game goes into overtime it is also an overtime period. Rather than constantly trying to switch between period and quarter, we have gone with the more generic period which works for all scenarios.
