Team Earned Runs seems to be incorrect?

"The accounting of earned runs is more complicated when relief pitchers are used. Each pitcher is liable for the runners he allowed on base via hit, walk, or hit by pitch even after he is pulled for a reliever. Batters who replace a previous runner on a fielder's choice are charged to the previous p...

Re: Earned Run problem and some substitution strangeness

I have scored 42 innings with this app and have run across an occurrence where an earned run was scored but was not earned.... K 1B E4 on a force out at second 1B to center - runner from second scores HBP K K I would score this UNEARNED. If force as second is out 2 the 1B to center does not drive in...

Re: Changing the ERA basis?

We are referring to a game OR a season... it does not matter. ERG will be a weighted average. Games that are scheduled for 7 innings are calculated at 7 innings, games that are scheduled for 5 innings are calculated at 5 innings. If you want them ALL to be calculated at 7 innings, set the scheduled...

Re: Changing the ERA basis?

You can decide how you want to handle it. Every game has a "Scheduled Innings" setting. If you want the 5 inning games to use 7 innings for the calculation, set the Scheduled Innings = 7. If you want the 5 inning games to use 5 innings for the calculation, set the Scheduled Innings = 5. This works ...

Re: Changing the ERA basis?

If they make us pay for the rules, it is very hard for us to find them. :) We would still love to see a link, but you have done an amazing amount of research trying to prove your case. Here is what we will do... in an upcoming release, we will add a setting where you can say you want your ERA calcu...

Re: Changing the ERA basis?

National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Rule Book

Rule 9.7.2.D

ERA ... Divide Total Runs Earned by Total Innings Pitched and Multiply by SEVEN ....

You will not be able to find this online because NFHS wants to SELL their rule books. But this is the rule. Honest.

Re: Determining Winning/Losing Pitcher

Another problem with automatically doing it is that it really can't be done. The old 'must throw 5 innings' rule doesn't apply in college and high school for example. If it is Pre-Determined that the starter is coming out after a certain number of pitches or innings he is still eligible for the win....

Re: Changing the ERA basis?

From Nathan Rode, editor of high school baseball for Baseball America "David, When we calculate high school ERAs we use seven innings in the equation since the standard high school game is seven innings. Nine innings is only used at the next level (college and beyond) and in the rare occasion that w...
