Error on pickoff attempt with no advancement

I scored an error (E1 throw) on a pickoff attempt where runner committed and dove back late. With a good thrown, he's out by a mile, but throw was low and was deflected about 20' away. F3 got it back from R1 could make it to 2B. (I think R1 was actually still too traumatized to run.) Regardless, my ...

FC. If a play on a runner trying to advance one base or return to their original base is unsuccessful (I view F6 as "making a play" on R2), then it's a FC if the play would have instead been made on B-R.

I would score E1 as 1) ordinary effort should have made and out and 2) it wasn't brain freeze (mental mistake).

Ump was right; dead ball strike.

I ump'd (and coached) for many years. 80% of coaches have a command of 30% of the rules.

MLB 9.05(b)(1) It's a FC for the B-R anytime a preceding runner was out on a force or would have been not for an error.
