Re: Fielders Choice or Hit
I think you are over reading into the phrase 'fielding error'.. if the only reason you are saying is because throwing vs fielding a ground ball. Still an error. the runner from first survives at second because of a fielder’s error. Fair enough. Thank you for the reply. I think you are right. One mo...

Re: Fielders Choice or Hit
ASA, (emphasis added) Rule 11 Scoring ... Section 3. A BASE HIT shall not be scored: A. When a runner is forced out on a batted ball or would have been forced out except for a fielding error. B. When a player fielding a batted ball retires a preceding runner with ordinary effort. C. When a fielder ...

Re: Overthrow or lost possession?
Seems to me that was the right call. The runner was past first base when the ball went out of play, and because he was not yet at second when the ball went out of play, he was awarded two bases, which puts him at third. Edit: didn't realize that there is a difference in ruling between an overthrow ...

Overthrow or lost possession?
Last night in an ASA slow pitch softball game (although I think the rule here is the same regardless), a play occurred which made me wonder about the right ruling. The situation was nobody out, no base runners. Batter hits a ground ball to the second baseman. The second baseman makes a low throw to ...

Re: How to score basic errors
I guess I'm asking that even apart from iScore, what does a scorekeeper do when an error is made that makes it impossible for you to know what the fielder would have done with the ball had they fielded it cleanly? Do you assume they would make the "smartest" play (as in, assuming less than 2 outs, g...

Re: How to score basic errors
So the consensus so far is that batter should ROE, runners are advanced by batter. But this does seem to cause a problem. Let's take the situation where the bases are loaded, nobody out, and the batter hits a ground ball back to the pitcher. This ground ball is routine and should be fielded with eas...

How to score basic errors
I've got a pretty simply question. Runner on first base, nobody out. Batter hits a routine ground ball to the shortstop. The ball tips off the shortstop's glove and everybody is safe. There is no question that the ball should have been fielded and should be an error. However, there is no way to know...

Re: Fielder's Choice or Error?
However, I just tried to score it that way, and ran into a problem. If I say that the batter reached on error, it never gives me the opportunity to say which fielders recorded the out on the runner coming from second base. It asks me what happened to the runner on second, and I can say they were for...

Fielder's Choice or Error?
I've got a question on how to score a particular play. The situation: Bases loaded, one out. Batter hits a line drive to the shortstop, who drops it. The drop was not deliberate, and the catch should have been made with routine effort. Definitely not an infield fly situation, however, as it was clea...

Re: Force out question
All of which we had already established. The remaining question, once again, is where does the rule book state that any out on the baserunner is considered a force out when a force play is in effect. That's clearly the only interpretation which makes sense, but surprisingly this is not clearly state...
